What we do and what we believe in.
Dudley CIL is an organisation run by and for its users. It is based on the principles of the social model of disability, which says that a person is not disabled by a medical condition, but by the reactions of those around them to it and to them.
We are totally committed to working to remove any kind of obstacles that prevent people from doing what they want to do because they are sick or disabled. These may include physical difficulties such as steps or small print and difficult words. It also includes working with carers and professionals to change their minds so that you are able to do the things that you want to do just the same as people who are not sick, deaf and disabled do.
We believe the way to do this is to provide support and advocacy from among st ourselves to support each other. To provide accurate information and to put you in touch with other organisations who are specialists in working in particular ways
We believe that all people must be treated equally and fairly no matter what their age, gender, orientation, disability, religion or nationality or background we want to work with all the people in Dudley and around the country or the world to help make lives of disabled people better. We do this by working together and supporting each other. By not accepting unfair decisions and making our views known as a group there is much more strength together than on our own.
